Topic > Titanic Film Analysis - 702

It is based on the true story of a ship that sailed from Europe to New York on April 15, 1912, more than 1,500 people died and only about 700 survived. The main characters Jack Dawson and Rose Dewitt Bukater both came from different social classes and fell in love with each other. The film depicts the injustice between first class passengers and third class passengers. In Titanic each character represents belonging to the Proletarian class or the Bourgeois class. Class struggle is explored in many ways in the film. In the scene where Rose attempts to commit suicide, Jack saves her, instead of being praised for saving her life, he is arrested simply because he was third class. In the Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx states: “The bourgeoisie has torn away its sentimental veil from the family, and has reduced the family relationship to a mere monetary relationship” Marx (56). This is really true under the deck of the Titanic for the poor third class passengers, the party they are organizing is very cheerful and spontaneous, everyone is having fun singing and dancing live. On the other hand, the group of first class passengers is very boring, conventional and boring. The film portrays first class passengers as arrogant and conceited. For first class passengers there is no such thing as true love, it's all about inheritance and wealth and less about actually spending time together
