“Mr. Odis influenced many students at Heartly High School. The students loved going to his class. He gave good advice and helped all his students as best he could. Mr. Odis was a man who believed in William Durant's dictum: "Education is the transmission of civilization." He was an old high school history teacher. He was tall, muscular and with dark skin almost as if he were the color of the midnight sky. He had a trembling voice, which gave some students and teachers the impression that he was afraid to speak. He was very old fashioned, but he dressed very young. She loved dressing young because of her size. The way he dressed is why all the students thought he was cool just by looking at him. He loved all of his classes, but his favorite class to watch was fifth period. He continually told them, “It's just because there's something different about all of you than every other class.” By mid-September, she knew all of her students in that class very well, except for two students, Makenzie and Johnathan. They both sat at the back of the classroom every day, about two seats away from each other. Makenzie was, not to be mean, a little overweight for an 11th grader or anyone else. She wasn't like the other big girls at Heartly High; she was different. She wore clothes that suited her size and remained very quiet during lessons. Johnathan always wondered why she was so quiet and so did Mr. Odis. Makenzie never really knew Johnathan or understood why Johnathan was as quiet as her, until one day Mr. Odis decided to get to know them both. That day, Mr. Odis called both Makenzie and Johnathan to his desk and asked them if they wanted to have a conference with him for thirty minutes after school. T......half of the paper......so together. Mr Odis and Johnathan even encouraged Makenzie to lose weight. Odis' decision to meet Makenzie and Johnathan changed all of their lives. Mr. Odis became an even happier man because he began to see Makenzie and Johnathan as his children, something he could never have. Makenzie began to lose tons of weight, she went from twenty to eleven wearing pants. Johnathan, happy old Johnathan, became more outspoken and even found the love of his life; she means everything to him. "Johnathan folds the paper he was reading, as tears begin to fall down his face. He approaches the coffin where Mr. Odis lies, places the paper next to him and says: "Thank you for everything Mr. Odis, you were just like my father." . He walked to his seat in the front aisle of the church next to his beautiful wife, Makenzie. He hugged her tightly as they both cried together.
