In video games, players are required to perform certain tasks to win by defeating the opponent or improving their skills in the game called "leveling up". Video games have evolved technologically and graphically. As the video game industry thrives, the harmful effects increase. They are becoming more interactively realistic. Video games play an important role in the world of entertainment today. Sarah Glazer states, “More than three-quarters of young Americans have video game consoles at home, and on a typical day at least 40% play a video game” (Glazer). This shows the influence of video games. I believe that video games which can cause anti-social behavior and have a harmful effect on young people; therefore, the federal government should impose a higher tax on violent, non-educational video games. Higher taxes could be used to give tax breaks to some of the more healthy and social activities such as fitness groups, talent groups and science groups which could be applied in schools. Joyce Corsica and Megan Hood point out: “Schools are in a unique position to support the promotion of healthy lifestyles. Interventions in the school environment can result in beneficial changes in both diet and physical activity.” (Corsica and Hood, 996). Schools can be extraordinarily effective places to teach children to embrace a healthy lifestyle. The future will be better than now with wholesome quotes. Moderation is important to maintain a healthy life. Addiction could cause problems financially, socially, and physically. There are bigger and more fun options to spend your free time. Every addicted person should have freedom. Addiction is a sign of suffering and hopeless pursuit that causes uncontrolled behavior. The right choices will create a good future. In the end, there is an ancient Arabian wisdom that comes from an unknown sage; “كل داء دواء يستطب به إلا الحماقة أعيت من يداويها”. The explanation of the previous wisdom is “for every problem there is a solution; expect bad and stupid decisions because they will affect everyone, including the problem solvers. In conclusion, however, video games have a bad reputation and have a significant effect on children; the federal government should tax non-educational videos.
