Mexico is known for many things ranging from its beautiful beaches to its unique small towns to its food, but another aspect of Mexican culture that stands out is its many forms of music music. When people think of Mexican music, they typically think of mariachi or banda and the dances associated with these genres, but what many people don't realize is that there are other forms of music such as corridos and many types of sones. Since there are many genres in Mexican music, I will focus on corridos. Corridos have always been an important genre for Mexican music as they have always carried with them an important, albeit sometimes controversial message and also describe the daily lives of Mexicans. Bullfights have existed for a long period of time. However, if you ask a person, they probably couldn't tell you how or where they started or what their roots are. Corridos have also changed over time and have also become very political and controversial due to their links to drug trafficking, cartels and violence. Corridos are said to have existed for over 100 years. According to Sheehy, corridos formed and gained popularity during the times of the revolution, "The revolution that began in 1910, however, provided the intense popular interest that catapulted corrido figures such as Francisco Madero, Francisco Villa, Emiliano Zapata, and a host of others ” (Olsen and Sheehy 198). Since the corrido was developed during the Mexican Revolution, one can only guess what it was about. Given the circumstances in which the corrido was born, it was probably one of the leaders of the revolution. Like much of English music today, drug use is the subject of many Spanish songs and it is clear why many people, such as parents, would not allow this to their children. He is promoting drug use which is not good for humanity. Corridos have been popular for a long time and although they can often send bad messages in songs, there are still many songs that promote positive vibes and messages to listeners that relate to the more important things in life such as family, love and enjoying life itself. Corridos came a long way before suddenly disappearing and with plenty of artists contributing good music and with more on the rise, there is no reason to be optimistic that bullfights will unite listeners in happiness..
