Topic > Should the minimum wage be increased? - 817

The minimum amount of money that must be paid to an employee by an employer on an hourly basis, regardless of the employee's job or qualification, which often set by government authorities is known as the minimum wage of that country. Currently the federal minimum wage in the United States is $7.25, last set in July 2009. Every year in our country there is a huge debate about raising the minimum wage. Raising the minimum wage obviously has a huge effect on the country's economy and its population. Some experts say that raising the minimum wage can improve the lifestyle of employees who are below the poverty line. They believe that by increasing the minimum wage the net income of the working class will increase and this will help maintain the financial balance between the management level and the operational level of employees. On the contrary, there are other people who think that increasing the minimum wage can have a negative effect on the country's economy as the company can hire a low number of employees to keep expenses low, resulting in massive unemployment in the country. Some economists say that with their research they have found that actually increasing minimum wages may not have a positive impact on the country's economy and may not have a positive impact on its population either. According to them, the quantity of labor demanded increases as the price of labor decreases. This means that a company can hire more workers to make more profit at a lower price. By increasing minimum wages, young people and less skilled workers will have less chance of getting jobs as only skilled workers will be preferred by companies to pay the minimum wage. So the country could end up with a large number of unskilled unemployed. Large companies are established... in the middle of paper... all over the world. To achieve better performance from employees, the company and the nation itself, the government should increase minimum wages as needed, but every aspect of the financial criteria of the company and its staff should be given careful consideration. The country's first priority should be its people and then the company. The government must have a support plan for the native society over the foreign one. The government should not only increase the price of goods and services, but should focus on how to equitably balance the economy, that is, by increasing the price of everything, including the minimum wage, or decreasing the prices of everything. As seen in recent years, prices for everything have increased except the minimum wage, so now is the time to increase the minimum wage for the people of the country to raise their standard of living.
