Mr. Caperton, the current president of the College Board which officiates the SAT, says the SAT provides college admissions tools to compare students (Caperton). The former West Virginia governor also suggests that the test does not discriminate against minorities, arguing that colleges that make the SAT optional do so to improve their status and not in the students' best interests (Caperton). There are alternative solutions. The test will undergo a major reform starting in 2016. Zoroya's USA Today article discusses the changes the test will have starting in spring 2016. According to Zoroya's article, college board officials have announced specific changes how the test will become more difficult but the questions will be more direct and practical, test duration reduced. The main change will be the change in the highest score from 2400 to 1600. I disagree with those who argue that the SAT offers a level playing field for everyone. There are studies that show the correlation between high SAT scores and high-income students. This date shows the inequality that the SAT brings.
