One that I believe has an impact on both patients and nurses. They are the staffing inadequacies that we have come to live with in nursing. Due to staffing issues, we are unable to meet our ethical standards and are putting our patients in danger. Nurses are pressured to do more with less. They are expected to provide excellent care when in reality they are fortunate enough to get through a change without making any mistakes. Due to my concern regarding staffing issues, I recently changed jobs to work within a unionized hospital so that I have established guidelines to help with this issue. My job is patient care, I want to know that when I leave after my 12 hour shift that I have made an impact. That I touched a life, that I made a difference.
