“Walt Disney was a man who changed people's lives, imagined new things and never gave up on his dreams. Walt Disney inspires people to not give up on their dreams, just like he never did when people told him he couldn't. Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois, to his father, Elias Disney, and his mother, Flora Call Disney. Walt was one of five children, four sons and a daughter. (Brad A.)“The Disney family moved to Marceline, Missouri, when Walt was born. Mr. Walt lived here most of his childhood. Walt had an early interest in drawing and art. Walt attended McKinley High School in Chicago. There, Mr. Walt transitioned from drawing to photography and working with the school newspaper. His love of trains from early childhood led him to add trains to Walt Disney World and Disneyland. “During the fall of 1918, Disney tried to enter military service. He was rejected because he was only sixteen at the time. Instead, Walt joined the Red Cross and was sent overseas to France, where he spent a year driving an ambulance and taking official Red Cross positions. When he returned from France, he wanted to find a job in the commercial art industry, which led him to animation. (Brad A.)
