Frank Davis wrote an article arguing how absurd our view of obese people is. She states: “So now they're going to punish fat people for being fat. This is what the issue boils down to. Davis' view on gluttony is similar to what most people see today, and Davis would most likely consider Dante's decision to put gluttony in hell to be wrong. The culture Dante grew up in was very conservative where humility was important. This differs from the society we live in today where the freedom to pursue happiness is the priority. This affects how today's reader perceives Dante's Inferno differently than 14th century readers
