Nuclear Energy Nuclear energy is known to us as a source of energy and not much more than that. We do not consider the risks of this energy source we use. The use of nuclear power plants damages our planet by producing harmful fumes and radioactive waste. Nuclear power plants produce radioactive waste that must be disposed of properly but, even with proper precautions, the waste remains dangerously radioactive for several years and there is nothing we can do about it. It is not only life-threatening for radioactive waste, but also considering that it could be spilled in an area where it can harm our planet and/or people and animals even more. These power plants are technically atomic bombs as they have the same process of being able to produce high amounts of energy by messing with atoms, which can be extremely dangerous. They are not only dangerous because of their emissions, but also because their behavior is unpredictable when there are no systems to cool them. For example, not long ago Japan was hit by a large earthquake that tampered with the control systems of nuclear power plants and they feared that if the plants got too hot they would explode. Japan had many safety systems, but in a disaster like the one that occurred we must expect the unexpected. Nuclear power plants require many precautions. If we changed our dependence on these plants we could live a much healthier and safer life. We can switch to green alternatives that are much less harmful to both our planet and ourselves. There are many green alternatives that can adapt to any type of environment. For example, you wouldn't put hydroelectric pumps in a desert, but you could put solar panels to be able to collect more energy in the middle of paper... um from splitting atoms we have used dangerous methods to obtain energy which is one of the main reasons for the global warming. People might conclude that since a person who started out opposing nuclear energy and is now a supporter, it's okay to support it, but there is also an opposing side. Greenpeace is an organization that has never softened towards the idea of nuclear energy. They state: “We have always believed that this is an inherently dangerous technology that should be phased out and replaced,” says Jim Riccio, nuclear policy analyst for Greenpeace USA. “And there are many cheaper, easier and less dangerous ways to generate electricity that don't threaten our families, homes and communities.” (Are nuclear power plants safe? Environmentalists are divided.) There are conflicting opinions on the topic that they say they consider nuclear energy as dangerous as everyone says it is.
