A stakeholder can be defined as a person or group that has an interest or concern in an organization. Stakeholders can influence or be influenced by the organization's actions, objectives and policies. Below are some examples of key stakeholders, relevant to Myer. External stakeholders: Fair Wear lobby group (protesters) The lobby group behind the protests is a key stakeholder to reach at this point in the life cycle of the issue. By identifying their needs and complaints, it is possible to contain the problem and prevent it from further developing into a full-blown crisis situation. Homeworkers are an external stakeholder for Myer; they suffer from poor working conditions and low wages and feel disengaged from their contractors and the retail sector. It is critical to target these stakeholders as they hold the power to promote this issue through further protests and turn this issue into a crisis; further influencing Myer's brand and image. EZ Clothing Productions The clothing manufacturing company that contracts home workers is a key stakeholder you need to communicate with at this stage of the life cycle. By communicating with them about both the Australian Code of Ethics for Clothing Manufacturing and the Myers Code for an Ethical Supply Chain, you can prevent this issue from happening again. EZ Clothing is an integral part of this problem as the way they treat their contract workers directly affects the reputation and image of the Myer brand. Myer Customers Myer customers are the key stakeholders to communicate with at this stage. Even if the issue is only early in its potential lifecycle, customers could quickly become aware of it and it could turn into a crisis. This problem could… half of the paper… we suggest that within this plan we will use a logical framework, or a theory of change model. By examining the causal relationships between the problem elements and the suggested response we will be able to conclude whether the necessary resources are available, how tactics can be successfully implemented, and what outcomes are desired and can be expected. We will also assess how this issue is unfolding through weekly meetings held between Mr Menon and Ms Tebbutt and a representative from Fair Wear. Recommendations The final recommendations that will steer this issue away from crisis are towards containment and minimization and it is up to Myer to actively engage in communicating openly and transparently with home workers and the Fair Wear pressure group, engaging in a supply chain ethics and keep all key stakeholders fully informed of any relevant progress.
