In today's society, billions of people around the world access the Internet several times a day. Many people have Internet on their smartphone and with the touch of a button they can check their email, Facebook, Twitter, bank account balance, movie times, GPS, Instagram or anything else online. Most of these things take up large amounts of time from people's lives. Whether it's a child at school or an adult at work, they are all members of some sort of social network and check it often. There is no doubt that there are some social benefits to these sites; most say they help people stay connected or that they make their lives easier. However, the benefits do not outweigh the problems they cause. Social networks make children and adults lazy, overweight, less productive both at school and at work, illiterate and antisocial. The first reason why social networks are harmful to society is that people have become overweight. About two decades ago, when people were bored, they went out and did something. They rode their bikes, took a walk with their dog, played a sport with friends or went to the gym. Nowadays, many people simply use their phone or computer and tweet. Most people would rather tweet how bored they are than get up and do something. even though social networks give people something to do, they aren't actually doing anything. Most of the time, when people are on the phone, they do nothing else and only give their attention to the phone rather than the task at hand. . This causes people to be less productive. People at work may be on their phones instead of working. This could also be true for a student in the classroom. Most schools have a… middle of paper… people for future business opportunities. A person may apply for a job, but when the company looks at the applicant's Facebook page, they may find that that particular person likes to party every night and get into fights with people online. This could cause the employer to lose interest in the candidate and possibly choose another person for the position. With social networking sites easily accessible by anyone online, incorrect information could leak out and it could impact a person's life in a way they never expected. In conclusion, social networks cause significant damage to society. It causes people to become obese, lazy, unproductive, antisocial and helps them lose the ability to speak properly. Although it may be useful at times, but in the long run it is not worth it. Social networks can interfere with a person's social life if they become fascinated with them at a young age.
