Modern Influences of the Mongol Empire Mongolia was the largest contiguous land empire in human history. It existed in the 13th and 14th centuries, but today its traditions and influences can be found throughout the world. The Mongol Empire was due to the unification of the Mongol and Turkic tribes under the rule of Genghis Khan in 1206.
