Topic > Did Jesus Claim to Be God? - 782

IntroductionThis document was written to discuss the many different ideas that were discussed in the first half of Theology 104. This lesson covered many topics that gave me a better understanding of Christianity, Jesus, and the Bible . I will address two topics that I think are very important for Christianity. First, I will focus on the question: Did Jesus claim to be God? This is one of the greatest challenges of the Bible that comes up quite often. Secondly, I will focus on character development.II. Did Jesus ever claim to be God?a) Theological definition The greatest support for Jesus' divinity lies in what he did, not in what he said. It is very easy to claim that you are divine, but the proof is in your actions. It is important because it suggests our nature and God's ability and will to relate to us, as sinful human beings. b) Biblical Foundation Many wonder whether Jesus ever claimed to be God. First, Jesus claimed to be the only Son of God, resulting in Jewish leaders stoning him "because you," the leaders said, " a mere man, you claim to be God" (John 10:33). On another occasion, a High Priest asked him: 'Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?' to which Jesus replied: "I am, and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven" (Mark 14.61-62). Jesus also claimed to possess the same attributes as God. In the Bible, Jesus was never recorded saying the exact words, “I am God.” However, Jesus' original viewers seemed to think that He said "I am the Father." They were even ready to kill him right there. The controversy is: Jesus did not need to say the specific words “I am God” to affirm this. Jesus, however, was... in the middle of the page... between the ways of God and the ways of Satan. We can't trust society or others to tell us otherwise. Paul writes: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Have the same mind in yourselves that was in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:3-5). As Christians, we must dedicate our lives to obedience to God and our way of life, our Christian code of ethics. We must live our lives with great dignity and moral character.IV. Conclusion In the first half of Theology 104 we covered many different topics. All these topics have given me a wonderful and better understanding of theology and Christianity. I had a better understanding of Jesus claiming to be God, as well as the development of our character and how it plays a very vital part in our lives as Christians. By asking Jesus into our lives, we will be highly rewarded. That's why I am
