In terms of who had the biggest impact between Turner and Douglass, the answer would be Douglass. Turner was too extreme and the violent actions he took shocked white America to the core. This fear would not result in any progress for African Americans or any freedom for slaves, but it could be argued that it was a step backwards for them and their cause. No matter what the situation, murder is never the answer, and if Tuner and his followers had spared more lives, the rebellion might have been more successful. Additionally, Turner's Rebellion inspired many other failed slave revolts, which resulted in even more deaths of African Americans. Douglass, however, relied on his words, not his fists or weapons, when fighting for freedom and equity for African Americans. He stayed the course through his teachings, writings, and activism which had a more productive and positive impact on the lives of African Americans than any type of slave revolt. Nat Turner's violent actions, in many ways, confirmed white America's ignorant claims that African Americans were inferior savages.
