Who was Ulysses? Odysseus was the main character of a story called The Odyssey; which was written by Homer. In the story, Odysseus is trying to return to his home in Ithaca, but on the way back he encounters a little problem! Throughout the story he portrays courage, intelligence, and remains loyal to his crew. Odysseus was brave. He came across an island of Cyclopes, one-eyed monsters and entered their cave. Despite his crew, who wanted to leave because they were afraid, Ulysses wanted to stay. When the Cyclopes returned home, they rolled a boulder, at least five times larger than Odysseus and his crew, in front of the cave entrance. After hours spent locked in the cave, Odysseus convinced his crew to help him blind the Cyclopes. So when the Cyclopes finally fell asleep, Odysseus called his men to get the spear they had made. They all counted together and stuck the spear into the Cyclops' eye, causing him to stand up and move the boulder.
