It is certainly a delicate subject to breach, and there may never be a true answer, but the perception of God must play a role in these manifestations. Individuals who may not find themselves having an “experience” because of their beliefs should not, in turn, belittle someone else who claims to have an experience. They should not be asked for any proof of “experience”. While Alston describes the double standard of not providing evidence for using one's normal senses to detect things, then why, when it comes to God, should people demonstrate that they have had an "experience"?
