To honor him as heroic, in line 76, the friends learned of this and adorned him with silver and gold, bringing the story full circle, an explanation for the appearance of the cross at the beginning of the narrator's tale. In line 80, "now the time has come when they will honor me far and wide", even if coming from anyone or anything else this sentence would seem a little arrogant, what the cross is saying this story will be told over and over again and that people will honor him forever.
