For this reason, the film lacks many explanations about the meaning of Jesus' crucifixion. While it provides a good description of the crucifixion itself, it does not show why this event was so significant. This relates to our work this semester to learn about Jesus, but primarily to the description of a historical event (even if dramatized), rather than to show the meaning of that event. Overall the film does a good job of portraying Jesus' immense suffering before and during the crucifixion, with Jesus coming across as a deeply sympathetic character. However, it does not depict Jesus and crucifixion is their theology
