As the main character of Fahrenheit 451, Guy Montag is obviously an important character. Although his physical characteristics are not described in detail, his emotional, social and intellectual characteristics are well defined. Throughout the story, Guy Montag faces many difficulties, which shape a completely new personality. At the end of the story, he has a new point of view that allows him to think and feel differently. At the beginning of the story, Montag is emotionally stable. It is clear that he is happy with his work when he says: "Kerosene to me is nothing but perfume." He describes their routine as “Well, it's a job like any other. Good work with lots of variety. We'll burn Miller on Monday; Tuesday, Tolstoy; Wednesday, Walt Whitman; Friday, Faulkner; and Saturday and Sunday, Schopenhauer and Sartre. We burn them to ashes and then burn the ashes. This is our official motto." However, as soon as he meets his new neighbor, Clarisse, he is changed forever. It describes a time when people actually read books, a time when one could think freely. He then goes on to question whether or not Montag is truly happy. Although Montag doesn't realize it right away, he isn't happy. This becomes evident when he vomits at the smell of kerosene after returning home from burning down a woman's house. When faced with challenges, Montag becomes irritated. This is especially evident at the end of the story, when Beatty confronts Montag outside his house. Montag burns it and knocks out the other firefighters. However, he mourns her death and realizes that he actually wanted to die. Montag has an interesting social life. Towards the beginning of the story, he doesn't know anyone that well.
