The Big Lie I've been going to church since I was three. I also attended Sunday school since I was three years old. I have since been confirmed as a member of the church and have actively participated in the high school youth program at my church. All these years I thought I would "become God", well at least that's what my pastor said. I think of myself now, at seventeen, and I haven't "become God" yet. I have many reasons why I chose atheism. First of all I think of the church as a bunch of nonsense. When I take a step back to look at the church, this is what I see. I see a god who has shown no evidence in the last 2000 years (if not even then), I also see a god who has left no evidence except the cross. Let's talk about the cross for a moment. Jesus was supposed to have carried this enormous cross only to be nailed to it and hung among thieves. First of all, if Jesus was a big threat to a king and was supposed to be the Son of God, you wouldn't think he would have come out with any bigger ceremony. I don't think the king would simply hand him over to the thieves. Secondly, on the third day he was supposed to move this huge stone and "get up". What he is lifting he just magically lifted into the air without making a sound and no one saw him. Or was it more of a fade into thin air, and if so, why did he move the stone? I see many similarities between the church and a cult. What is a cult? A cult as I see it is people who blindly dedicate their time and money to a higher power they have never seen evidence of, like the church. The main difference between a church and a cult, as I see it, is that the church has a history. Many cults can be self-destructive, so the church is thought to be stronger. Even church people have this book that they hold on to, the Bible. This Bible should have been written thousands of years ago and should have contained actual quotes from Jesus himself. First, how could a book last so long??
