INTRODUCTION In the global media and especially in the US print media, not a day goes by without mention of China and its internal affairs, or its relations with one or another country. China has become a strong topic in current affairs thanks to its new role as a sponsor and facilitator of growth and development projects in developing countries. The only region of the world where China's influence has recently become pervasive is Africa. This influence, however, faces harsh criticism from the media, the West and the world at large.
