Internet Censorship Khalid, Y, Alshughaybi Teacher Christine Research Skills May 26, 2014 Parents censor the Internet from their children, why do you think so?. With a click of the mouse you can access a lot of information, especially children. Sometimes access is limited and some Internet content is blocked or closed. This is Internet censorship. It is easy to reach the control information. Parents who want to protect their children must use intelligent filtering software that ensures that children are using trusted sites and resources, while also preventing them from accessing unpopular sites (Dr. Brenda, n.d.). There are many reasons why parents should censor information, for example: protecting children from pornography, Internet addiction and social behavior. Parents believe that Internet censorship protects our children from accessing pornography and harmful information. Visiting sexual sites by 40% of children is intentional or accidental (DeAngelis, 2007). With home Internet, 32% of parents use Internet filtering software to prevent children from looking at dangerous sites. As we know, sometimes when they search the Internet for a specific topic, they get what they are looking for, but it may contain some ugly images (Roberts). For example, it's too easy for kids to search for sports photos and they'll see some porn images pop up. Furthermore, these terms; toys, pets, women or girls will produce many pornographic sites that make parents worry about children's morality. So, based on the fact that parents who suffer from poor materials, they can take strong action to protect their children in ...... middle of paper ...... or themselves and other people ( Keung, n.d.). In summary, the Internet is growing rapidly. It's the easiest way to communicate around the world. Furthermore, with minimal cost it is possible to disseminate enormous amounts of information to people everywhere. This information may contain good or bad content. Therefore, parents who support Internet censorship have an interest in protecting their children's morality from pornography, Internet addiction, and bad social behavior. Our children are the most important things in our lives. They need our help, our advice and our guidance to live the right way. We should teach them how to think before clicking on any link. Finally, I will conclude with what Hillary Clinton said: "The Internet is not intrinsically good or bad: it depends on who uses it and for what purpose" ("Clinton outlines the new politics of Internet freedom", 2011).
