Most people on this earth choose to believe that once they find their soulmate, they will be able to share a long and happy marriage, “until death leaves [them] ." This belief is just a simple myth, as more and more couples file for divorce every year. It is ironic how a man can find the love of his life, his source of ultimate currency, but is forced to a dead end due to external struggles. In Happier, author Ben-Shahar discusses "the misconception that finding love guarantees everlasting happiness leads partners to neglect the journey: the everyday issues, activities, and events that shape the relationship" (Ben-Shahar Shahar, 121). There are many external factors that can be detrimental to a marriage if the couple does not know how to move forward, such as children, distance and cultural values. This article will explore how an income difference can cause dissatisfaction and ultimately loss of love in a heterosexual marriage in American society. I will also explore whether the amount of total income (rich, middle, or poor) can increase the odds of divorce. Happier by Ben-Shahar is a self-help book that aims to help people understand the meaning of their lives. and strive for happiness as the ultimate currency. In his book, Ben-Shahar states, “money – beyond the bare minimum for food and shelter – is nothing more than a means to an end” (Ben-Shahar, 55). Although, according to Ben-Shahar, there is no strong correlation between money and happiness, there have been other studies that support the opposite. Leonardo Becchetti, a well-known professor of Economics at the University of Rome, carried out research on the relationship between money and happiness in his written article, “Income, Relatio…… half of the paper……rint .5 July 2011.Birchler, Gary R. and Linda J.
