Haute CubismWhen designing a high-end boutique you should always keep in mind the experience the designer wants to provide to the buyer. An overall design concept is important to develop a coherent look for the retail space. Some aspects of store design can be very critical and should be carefully studied. Lighting, for example, does not have to be harsh and must be carefully chosen to highlight the clothing items in the most exquisite way. The atmosphere should elicit a cohesive balance between seductive and relaxing. This can be achieved from furnishings and fixtures to product placement and clothing displays. Finally the customer should leave with a feeling of nostalgia and should plan his next visit. The concept chosen for this project will be a blend of influences from the 20th century art movement known as Cubism and the similarities between Picasso and avant-garde designer Martin Margiela. Cubism is an avant-garde artistic movement of the 20th century, originating from Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, which revolutionized European art. The influence of Cubism can be seen everywhere, from paintings to sculptures and even music, literature and architecture. Cubism and its philosophies can also be seen in the shift from a worldview that focused on unitary, Eurocentric and egocentric visions, towards visions based on multiple perspectives. Cubism can be broken down into two different phases, the first, which lasted from 1907 to 1911, is known as analytical cubism and is recognized by different characteristics. Analytical Cubism can be recognized by a monochromatic color palette, especially cool neutrals. Artists during this period used very little color. Color was seen as a way to interfere with how objects were seen. The... center of the paper... serials, with sharply angled furniture and seductive cool colors create a juxtaposition similar to that created by Picasso and other Cubist artists. Like Picasso and all other artists, the main journey is to create a dimensional piece that develops and explains the anguish, joy, love and every other emotion used in creating masterpieces. I believe my space creates just that; a space full of wearable art that tells stories of emotions.Works citedMartin, Margiela. "House." Maison Martin Margiela. YOOX Group, 2000.
