Imagine your whole life in a cage. You are always weak and sick because scientists are slowly poisoning you. This is exactly what happens to animals. Approximately 100 million animals are tortured every year. Whether it is burned, crippled, abused, or poisoned, it happens every year to supposedly "support the progress of science" ("11 Factss" 1). These “scientific experiments” have been taking place since 500 BC (“Animal Tests - ProCon.org” 1). There are other ways to accomplish this research, and using animals is disgusting and wrong. It has to stop! Animal testing should be banned to ensure their safety. To better understand animal testing, we need to know what it is, why it is wrong, what animal experiments do, and how it affects animals' lives. Furthermore, we need to learn what we could do instead of mistreating these animals as an alternative to this type of testing. Animal testing occurs when animals such as cats, dogs, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, primates, and others are used to test new products, study human diseases, and aid in the development of new drugs (Harm and Suffering 1). They are also used for medical treatments, to determine the toxicity of drugs, to verify the safety of products intended for human use, and for other biomedical, commercial and healthcare uses (Pro-Con.org 1). By testing on animals, scientists hope to gain information from animals to help us in the long term. Animal testing is obviously wrong for many reasons. First of all, animal experiments are very harmful to animals. Pain is an understatement in the case of animals, considering that they almost always have no painkillers. Another reason is the physiological difference... in the middle of the paper... some shocking statistics. In the United States alone, approximately 1,134,693 animals are used. Of those, 29,959 are in Wisconsin. Arizona leads the number of animals with 130,029. The fewest animals come from Hawaii: 183. If you think about it, those are pretty big numbers to think about. Even though Hawaii only uses 183 animals, that is still 183 animals that could have a perfectly happy life roaming the outdoors and being animals themselves (Pro-Con.org 5). Just as an aside, I have to write this article it's pathetic. If animals are tortured it is wrong. If you are one of the people who thinks this is okay, please take a look for yourself. This should be done to you instead of them, you are looking at a heartless and inhumane society. So good job everyone, pat yourself on the back for creating a cruel and callous world we live in.
