“Sunlight (and all light) contains energy. Usually, when light hits an object the energy turns into heat, like the heat you get from sitting in the sun. But when light hits certain materials, the energy instead transforms into an electric current, which we can then exploit to produce energy” (Alivisatos). The method for transforming light into energy by human means is called PhotoVoltaics. Having this general knowledge, humanity has created several devices made of a certain type of material capable of transforming solar energy into energy; these devices are called PhotoVoltaics cells or solar cells. With those tiny cells, humans have created (for very efficient use of this energy) a much larger device called solar panels. Solar panels are made up of thousands of solar cells tied together and connected to a specific generator. When sunlight heats this panel, and therefore the solar cells, they transform the light into energy that activates the generator which, in turn, will transform it into electricity that will be used to power many things. However, this energy is still underused because its use is expansive. That is why, thanks to the development of this technology, solar energy will become one of the main energy sources. Nowadays, most of the energy we rely on is produced from fossil fuels. However, it is known worldwide that these energy sources pose numerous problems, the most important of which are their limitation and their impact on the environment as well as their increasing cost. Indeed, since they are not actively renewed, it is commonly believed that fossil fuels will eventually run out, and thus humanity will find itself in a stalemate. Fewer fossil fuel sources are being found every day, and that will be a problem in...half the paper...years." National Geographic. National Geographic, 10 28 2013. Web. 2 April 2014Lewis, Nathan S.
