Homosexuality is defined as sexual activity with a person of the same sex. In our culture and world today, approximately 1 in 6 is homosexual. People are always afraid of what they don't understand. This is especially the case when it comes to homosexuality; at first it was a taboo, judged by a large part of the population. Time and again the issue of gay rights has been raised around the world, even today the collective acceptance of gay men and women is not easy to achieve. They found it extremely difficult to fit in both in the workplace and as teenagers at school, this is why some find it necessary to cover their sexuality. There are approximately 9 million gay, lesbian, or bisexual people in the United States alone. The effect of covering up your sexuality impacts all different types of people: young, middle-aged, and older. In today's society being homosexual is abnormal, people look down on them and classify them as unnatural and not quite equal. This then leads them to become alarmed and afraid of revealing their true identity and resort to cover-up to prevent further degradation. As a result, homosexuals find it necessary to downplay their external identities in order to blend in. This then leads to a wide range of effects on both the individual's coverage and the company the person is trying to cover themselves from. For example, in a bank it might be easier to hide your sexuality to avoid humiliation. Especially in investment banks and higher tier banks, although there are no facts or figures to fully support this, generally the men who work in a bank tend to be straight white males. This is the unspoken truth and occurs not only in banking but also in many other occupations. I have... half of the paper... it was so hard to come out before due to peer and social pressure, but they felt relieved when they revealed their secret. One of the most famous people to come out is Ellen DeGeneres, a famous comedian and host who openly declared her sexuality in 1997, surprised the world and influenced many to follow in her footsteps and come out. Today's society faces many challenges in coping with, adhering to, and becoming familiar with variations in cultural and social patterns. What people call normal human behavior in one society may normally be seen as taboo in another. “More than one in five gay men and nearly one in ten lesbians have been punched, hit or kicked; a quarter of gays have had objects thrown at them; a third was chased; a third have been sexually harassed and 14% have been spit on, all because they were perceived as gay" (Satris 168).
