The definition of the word trust means having faith in yourself and in your own strengths and abilities. Many of us may have an idea of what we believe trust might mean. However, when the moment requires us to trust ourselves, right? Can an individual have self-confidence in every decision he makes? When it comes to trust, should gender matter? The answer is that gender shouldn't matter when it comes to trust. Regardless of how a person looks on the outside or how they behave, what really matters is the confidence they have inside. We all have our own kind of confidence deep within ourselves. Limiting and breaking down the word confidence and claiming that there is a confidence gap between men and women is nothing more than a distorted statement described in the article “The Confidence Gap” by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman published by The Atlantic. The article states that there is a trust gap within the workplace where women do not work hard enough to move up the career ladder and blames women for allowing this type of situation to occur. How can women be accused and blamed for not possessing enough confidence to climb the job ladder? Why are such accusations directed only at women? Can they be true? "When women hesitate because they're not sure, we hold back." (Kay and Shipman, The Trust Gap). It's true that some women may hold back or may not have enough confidence to ask for a promotion or raise in their work environment. However, women are more than capable and confident enough to complete a task to the end. Kay and Shipman continue to discuss the consequences of women showing and not showing confidence in the workplace. It's... at the center of the card... modern society when it comes to the way women are viewed. Penelope's confidence is shown to be that of an empathetic queen who possesses a strong heart and a strong will. By her being strong enough to speak her mind and having a strong will to never let her heart be influenced by another man, this alone shows what kind of confidence a woman can gain. If there is a gap in trust it is in the lack of trust for both men and women. Women are always thought to be the most emotional and sensitive of the sexes, thus giving rise to the belief that women can be more insecure and have more lack of confidence than men. After all, who ever said that men aren't insecure or emotional? Who established the rule that one sex even lacks trust?. Just because women may not always show their confidence in the workplace, that doesn't mean there is a confidence gap.
