If you had asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up before the last 5 years, I would have answered either a math teacher or a basketball player. I never would have said that I wanted a career in medicine. And I never thought there was a profession that could encompass both. Although I was pretty good at science, my favorite subject was mathematics. I have always been best at math and loved the feeling of analyzing complex problems and trying different methods and techniques to ultimately arrive at the right answer. For me, math problems were like a puzzle and I had the tools to solve them. Medicine is very similar to mathematics in the sense that every patient is a puzzle and it is the doctor's job to diagnose it and figure out how to solve it. Basketball was my favorite hobby when I was a child. My high school coach emphasized the importance of teamwork, and my favorite part of the sport was bonding with my teammates after we made an amazing play. Winning games with everyone contributing was extremely rewarding, especially when it was our only win of the year. Teamwork is probably the most important aspect in medical practice. Doctors should always get input from other doctors for various treatments and diagnoses. They should always maintain good contacts with doctors in various fields to obtain certain information or for help with laboratory tests. The nurses, paramedics, administrators, volunteers, patients, families, janitors, etc. they must all act as a cohesive unit for a hospital to run smoothly. Every successful treatment of a patient is a win for the entire team, not just the doctor and patient. My interest in medicine has been a gradual process, with many experiences and events playing a role… middle of the paper. .....who cared about their health. He spoke in a loving manner, but was also stern at times to encourage them to practice good health. His patients always praised Dr. Dixit and I could tell they trusted him a lot. This instilled in me the desire to become a doctor that anyone could trust and be open to, the characteristics displayed by Dr. Dixit. Even though I'm not entirely sure what field of medicine I'd like to go into, I know that medicine is the right path for me because I really can't imagine myself doing anything else. I truly believe that I am ready to face the countless obstacles, struggles, successes, and failures on my path to becoming a doctor because the day I can heal and help others medically in every way possible will be a dream come true. Therefore, getting admitted to medical school will take me one step closer to realizing my aspirations.
