Does the Electoral College voting process today effectively embody the ideas intended by the Founding Fathers? When the Electoral College Process was created in 1789 along with the Constitution, the Founding Fathers Alexander Hamilton , Thomas Jefferson However, James Madison and John Adams created the Electoral College process for three main purposes. In today's politics, presidential candidates are working around the core principles and purposes of why the Electoral College process was created and the manipulation of some factions is still ongoing. One purpose was to prevent presidential candidates from manipulating voters into voting for them in elections. Another purpose that the founding fathers had in mind when creating the Electoral College process was that they did not trust the citizens of the United States in choosing the right president to represent the country and lead it. The founding fathers did not trust direct democracy to choose the president; they believe that a group with the same interest would dictate the outcome of the election if the electoral process were a direct democracy. The third purpose the Founding Fathers had when they created the Electoral College process was to give smaller states in the United States a stronger voice in elections. However, the vision that the founding fathers embodied when creating the electoral process has been modified today. Politicians have found loopholes in the Electoral College process to convince voters to vote for them even if their qualifications do not qualify them to be president. However, the Electoral College process does not effectively embody the prevention of manipulation of elections by presidential factions and candidates, which is one of the main reasons why the Founding Fathers established the Electoral College process in this way. Factions still convince the public to vote for a certain candidate by singing commercials to target states with the most electoral college votes and some smaller states that swing in favor of their presidential candidate. This shows that the Electoral College process is not very effective in some of the areas where the founding fathers wanted it to be effective in such prevention of manipulation.
