Odysseus was the person who originally invented the idea of the Trojan Horse, the strategy by which the Greeks were finally able to take the city of Troy itself and make it fall (Hunter). Odysseus had the cunning idea of overthrowing Troy. This is what led to the fall of Troy. If he had never thought about this idea, Troy might never have fallen. Therefore, the extraordinary ingenuity of Odysseus conquered Troy and they could never have done it without him. He could have simply said "let's brute force Troy" and most, if not all, of them would have fallen on the battlefield that day. He made sure that all ships and camps were hidden and did so during the celebrations taking place in Troy. In this way he managed to make it seem like it was a gift from the gods. I believe this is the best example of strengthening my thesis from a secondary text. The reason is that the Trojan Horse is why they won the Trojan War. For ten years the battle went in no direction. However, then came the idea that Odysseus thought of everything himself, he stated (WorldPress.com). The genuineness of this strategy of waiting patiently inside a giant wooden horse until the city fell asleep was an unthinkable idea at the time. The women found in this book also had to have cunning and strength of character to not be mistreated. as a sex slave and become an object rather than a human being. They showed the same cunning as Odysseus during the Odyssey. They must rely on the power of cunning rather than strength because they are weaker than men as has been the case for centuries. It seems that most of Homer's minor characters are women. He's using all these minor characters to reinforce the theme... center of the paper... I'm probably dead. However, when they work together they can defeat anything. The use of cunning through deception and disguise played an important role in Odysseus' success in returning home; even when he was at home he used disguise and deception. Women sometimes helped Odysseus disguise himself, and Odysseus did much of the deception. Odysseus and the women of the Odyssey showed throughout the book the power of cunning over strength and the different scenarios in which they used it. I felt that the examples I chose to strengthen my thesis were appropriate, the best of the bunch, and showed several scenarios.Works Cited Homer, Robert Fagles, and Bernard Knox. The Odyssey.
