With the consoles just released last year, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, people have been wondering which one to buy. Many have argued that Microsoft's Xbox One is better due to its home entertainment capabilities. Others argue that Sony's PlayStation 4 is superior due to its slightly better processing power. “[Sony] Unlike Microsoft, which is trying to become the centerpiece of the living room with Xbox One, PlayStation 4 is happy to be part of the total package” (Reisinger). There was an entire website created just to argue about which was better, where some exaggerated everything and argued until they were blue in the face and broke down while others made excellent points. Both consoles have very similar capabilities. Driven by an eight-core processor and 8GB of RAM, the Xbox One will have USB 3.0 ports, a Blu-ray drive, a 500GB hard drive, and Wi-Fi. Each unit comes with a new Kinect, a 250,000-pixel infrared tracking camera capable of processing 2GB of data per second. It can distinguish the thumb from the hand and record the rotations of the wrist and shoulder. According to Microsoft's Mark Whitten, it can "read your heartbeat" by measuring small changes in skin tone as blood vessels in your face expand and contract. (Five things you NEED TO KNOW ABOUT… Xbox One)…[However] both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will have AMD chips under the hood. The PS4 has an eight-core AMD "Jaguar" x86-64 CPU and an AMD Radeon Graphics Core Next-engine GPU, both on a custom chip. … The PS4 will have GDDR5 RAM while the Xbox One will use the more common and slower DDR3 RAM” (GREENWALD). However, some forget about the humble computer, which when optimized for g...... half of the paper ......tion. Family entertainment is why consoles sell so well for their ability to play a movie, bring father and son to friendly competition in a soccer game, and for being able to play games with multiple players of a computer due to lack of elbow room. While a computer has everything and more that a console can do, it will never be able to surpass the familiar appeal of a console. In conclusion, a computer is much more powerful than a console in many ways. A computer may have a higher initial cost, but the cost decreases over time. Consoles can't have as many games as computers, and they run on the most important games to make most of their money. Updates are more available for computers than for consoles. However, a console is much better for a family. Computers are for hardcore gamers who want the best experience possible. This is the most important difference between console games and computer games.
