America's wilderness is vital to the health and well-being of our nation. Preserving America's wilderness areas is necessary for resource conservation, it is necessary for human survival, and it is necessary for maintaining biodiversity. Over the years, the resources of the past have rapidly diminished. Conservation has since expanded beyond the use of natural resources and become a movement. Many critics of conservation believed it would stifle industrial development, however, the environmental movement increased development over the years because it forced the need to find an alternative energy source. One of the main concepts of conservation is that it should be used for the benefit of the many and not for the profit of the few, like big businesses that destroy vast areas of wilderness without caring what they are destroying. Preserving wilderness areas will help preserve America's rapidly dwindling resources. The resources we had years ago are much less due to the supply and demand of today's society.
