Many of the current airplanes in service today are on average twenty years old. This causes higher fuel consumption and higher maintenance costs. To succeed, Southwest Airlines will have to transition to newer, larger and more efficient aircraft models. To better control baggage traffic, automated systems have been created with multiple advantages. Some of these benefits include scheduled baggage handling, faster boarding and unloading times, and overall happier passengers and customers. Having a new, larger plane would be essential to carry more passengers on each trip, thus increasing revenue.
