“I certainly think another Holocaust could happen again. It's already happened; think of Cambodia, Rwanda and Bosnia. " - Miep Gies The Vietnam War, a brutal war that took place but many overlook what happened after Vietnam. In the Cambodian conflict, the Khmer Rouge massacred as many citizens as they could find, but was it genocide? The Cambodian conflict took place during the Vietnam War and Cambodia is located to the west of Vietnam. Genocide is important because it is something that all of humanity must stop. The massacre of thousands of innocent people should not be so regular this topic because I didn't know much about the Cambodian genocide before doing research, and this seemed like a unique genocide While the Vietnam War was going on, the Cambodian government allowed the US to bomb alleged Viet Kong hideouts up to 750,000 Cambodians. Heavy American bombing led many to join the Khmer Rouge, led by Pol Pot. Cambodia now had its own group of communists, the Khmer Rouge. The Khmer Rouge then began with a plan to turn Cambodia into a communist country where they believed all civilians would work on farms. They overthrew the government and carried out their plan. All intellectuals and educated people, such as doctors and lawyers, were killed, along with all non-communist aspects of traditional Cambodia. The problem is that the Khmer Rouge were ready to kill you if you were educated in a field such as doctor, lawyer, engineer and scientist. Those who were not killed were sent to labor camps. “The imposition of a murderous regime always leaves its leaders in fear: fear of losing power, of failing to prevent revenge, of a… middle of paper… genocide. It showed that the Khmer Rouge and perhaps everyone are more than ready to kill out of fear or anger, some killed without any reason, just because you laughed or cried you could die. I believe that if we don't kill for these reasons, the future will never see such a cruel conflict like this again. hmh.org. NP Network. 1 April 2014. .Kiernan, B.. Np.
