Immune disorders, faster aging, infertility and much more! This is what you pay when you buy GMO foods. GMO stands for genetically modified organisms. GMO products are products that have undergone modifications that cannot occur naturally. GMOs are advertised as a better, more enhanced version. Scientists have altered the genes of GMO products so that they can grow in different environments, in adverse weather conditions and generate more food. The truth is that, because of these modifications, GMO foods pose major problems for our health, our environment and our well-being. The manufacturers of these foods will tell you that they are no different from foods that have not been genetically modified, but if that is the case, why modify the foods? These manufacturers will try to tell you that the food is safe, even better for you. I'll tell you the truth. I will tell you the real reasons why genetically modified organisms are harmful to our country. It is difficult to know for sure when GMOs were introduced into the United States. GMO foods are now a natural part of our lives, but it's pretty easy to remember when food was simple. If you've ever listened to your grandparents talk about stories from those times, they'll tell you all about when they had to grow their own food there. They planted the seeds, took care of the crops, and had a good harvest at the end of the summer. According to Mail Online “The first commercially grown genetically modified food crop was a tomato created by the California Company in the early 1990s.” This is when everything started to go wrong for us. Companies can now have patents for certain foods and seeds. This is extremely bad news for farmers. Economists say that “…middle of paper……Thority states “Why so sneaky?” The European Union has banned GMOs, as have Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom and two dozen other countries that recognize that a lack of long-term studies and testing could hide disastrous health flaws.” This begs the question: why not label? Could it be that putting the words "GMO" on the packaging could cost more? Or fewer people would purchase these items if they knew what was happening in their bodies. There are bills pending on Beacon Hill to pass genetically modified food labeling laws. “The laws would require that there be a small phrase or phrase on a package that states that the food in this product has been genetically modified or genetically engineered. Not a big warning label. It is the same size as the other ingredients. I believe these companies don't want to decrease sales by putting GMOs on the packaging.
