CREATIVE SKILLS PROFILE REVIEWDESCRIPTION. A good handbook for examiners, the Profile of Creative Abilities (PCA) was created primarily to recognize "students with creative thinking" (p. 7). Alternative uses include tracking progress in creative thinking lessons and initiating research. Items within the PCA include two divergent thinking subtests and two rating scales (Home and School). The rating scales have identical products. The examiner's manual instructs a college mental health counselor or any other qualified test administrator in the simplest method of administering and scoring certain measures that define the PCA. The tables that run the manual allow the user to change the raw scores to standard scores and percentile ranks and to derive a standardized "creativity index" from the combined total scores against the two divergent thinking subtests.DEVELOPMENT. In developing the PCA, the test author used 2 types of creativity, one dependent on JP Guilford's idea of divergent (versus convergent) thinking and the other dependent on the inclusion of social and atmospheric factors in creativity by Teresa Amabile. Following Guilford, the test author defines divergent production as “the generation of options to satisfy specific general requirements” (examiner's manual, p. 2). Both divergent thinking subtests apply Guilford's concept by asking students to (a) complete eight pictures depending on the incomplete figures and (b) in two separate exercises of 20 geometric figures, identify as many groups of three or more figures depending on the incomplete figures. some common characteristics. The eight completed sketches are each acquired four by six divergent techniques recognized by Guilford (problem sensitivity, originality, redefinition...... middle of paper...... (2005).
