British Secret Intelligence:MI6Introduction"Hello Mr. Bond." When you think of the British agency MI6, the character James Bond usually comes to mind. An agency that allows its agents to have a license to kill, allowing them to do anything, at any cost to achieve the greater good, with the head of Agency M sitting behind a desk giving orders. This seems like an agency anyone would want to work for. In reality, it is an agency that has gone through several wars and has evolved over the years with lies, secrets and betrayals (Corera, 2011). At one point British intelligence, often known as MI6, was very similar to the fictional character James Bond. At first, agents did not necessarily have a license to kill, but were encouraged to master the skills of lying and betrayal. This included breaking the law, stealing, assisting in the overthrow of hostile governments, and perhaps parachuting into enemy territory (Corera, 2011). During its infancy, the agency didn't even officially exist. MI6's main goal was, and still is to some extent, to steal the secrets of others, including spies and foreign countries. The agency has managed to keep most of its history and operations secret in its more than 100 stories. In this way, they have become the “godfather” of spy agencies around the world. The agency over its 100 years of existence played a role in both World Wars, fighting the Germans through espionage ensuring the survival of the British. He also participated in the Cold War era fighting communism and providing valuable intelligence to the government, and assisting in the 21st century fight against terrorism and serious international crimes.
