There are numerous inspiring public leaders in the United States. In times of tragedy, prominent leaders must inspire their nation in a positive way. Not only did President Ronald Reagan use language for a calming effect after a disaster, he also reminded his nation that progress and exploration must continue despite challenges. By using purposeful language, President Reagan established a consoling effect as he delivered his defiant speech. By showing empathy in many aspects of his behavior, Reagan positioned himself in the perspective of many grieving families.
