It is clear to anyone who follows tennis that women are stronger, fitter and more skilled than ever. Kimmelman says that “they are stronger, bigger, faster, better trained, and driven above all by the example of the Williams sisters” (p 513). These two sisters have raised the bar for everyone in tennis because for many of the opening rounds of the Slams you shouldn't put that much energy to get to the next one, but since the sisters came into the game you have to put your all to make it. The players had to get in shape, train and train harder. Younger athletes noticed this and it pushed them to start hitting harder than ever. Serena has dominated women's tennis and is at the top of the game and ranked number one in the sport. Some tennis players benefit when she was forced to quit due to injuries. “Suitors have come and gone in recent years” (p 515). One article said: “Again, it's hard to criticize Williams because he is exceptional. His game at 31 is, by many standards, more magnificent than ever, the combination of power and athleticism now enhanced by his shooting ability and overall experience.” Of course they were heavy hitters before the William sisters like Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King and many others. Women's tennis has a deeper game and these sisters dominate most of their opponents every time. Serena began training with her father Richard Willimas at the age of three and turned professional in 1995. “She's so… halfway… aiming for the champion to win. Who will be the next super big dominant tennis star as dominants age, but they haven't completely disappeared from the scene, especially since Serena is still at the top of her game at age 32, is as ferocious as ever, and earns millions. There are young up-and-coming teenagers ready to step onto the court with a lot to prove and they will have to train harder to keep hitting against these fiery hands that embrace the dominant world of women's tennis.
