In times of emergency, life and death, and tragic desperation, people are often reminded of the umbrella of stress looming over us. With such a world that people live in today, it is sometimes common to get caught up in the little details of life; rather than enjoying the beauty of it all. Almost every day we live a sheltered life, hidden in our communities, just trying to go unnoticed. But sometimes there are times in life when that protected routine, so ingrained in our minds, is approached differently. August 29, 2005, the first day of Hurricane Katrina; this date is permanently ingrained in thousands of New Orleanians. On this day, people saw family members drowned, homes destroyed, as well as memories of such a beautiful city floating past them. Because of this, that umbrella of stress hanging over these people is present throughout their lives. The enormous amount of stress that victims of Hurricane Katrina went through resulted in not only physical health problems, but a psychological illness no less than post-traumatic stress disorder. But who is to blame for such an event? Some may say this is natural, but this blame should not be placed on anyone other than the US government. Due to the U.S. government's poorly planned evacuation process and post-Hurricane Katrina living conditions, citizens of New Orleans who experienced intense psychological stress are significantly more likely to be diagnosed with post-Hurricane stress disorder -traumatic.
