The October 1973 War, also known as the Yom Kippur War, was one of the wars that we often overlook when diving into the historical events that took place in history. Growing tensions between Israel and Egypt led to Egypt's surprise attack on Israel. It was especially interesting because both sides claim to have won the war. The Yom Kippur War got its name from the fact that it occurred on the holiest day of prayer and fasting of the Jewish holiday 1. The October War of 1973 was the result of Arab frustration with Israel for not surrendering its territories it had acquired during the Six-Day War of 1967. In other words, Israel's victory in the Six-Day War led to Arab retaliation in the October War. Both Syria and Egypt had lost territory to Israel and both were trying to regain it. Israel sought peace with the Arab nation, but did not want third party involvement, while the Arabs wanted a third party to be involved2. As a result, both the Egyptians and the Israelis were unwilling to compromise their desires, which led Egypt to declare war on Israel. After the Six-Day War, President Lyndon Johnson issued a peace treaty called "Johnson's Five Principles" to bring some stability to the country. nations at war. Unfortunately, the treaty ended in failure, which increased the frustration of the Arabs3. Although Israel wanted peace, it approved a policy that allowed them to establish further settlements in territories acquired during the Six-Day War; which were known as the Galilee documents4.
