Once upon a time there was a very lonely and sad monarch caterpillar. He woke up every morning alone and cold in the shade of the leaves. As usual, he looked around nervously for any danger before proceeding to search for food. He was a particularly picky eater because he ate only the leaves of a milkweed plant. One morning, he awoke to the searing beam of light dazzling the lone caterpillar. He decided to check out the glow when he noticed a row of caterpillars next to him, marching one by one up the thin stem of a blooming flower. They proceeded to spit out strange silks and then get stuck in it while it was simultaneously suspended on the stem and hidden in the flower's pedal. The lone caterpillar never saw its parents, but it knew that caterpillars were going through a stage of metamorphosis, where they pupate. He also knew that one day he would become a beautiful butterfly. Eagerly, he continued his risky journey towards the light. Suddenly a gust of freezing air rustled the leaves he was standing on and made him fall violently to the ground, unconscious. The long one...
