Every day more and more attempts to ban books and take away our First Amendment rights are violated. Challenging a book is the attempt to remove or restrict materials, while banning is the removal of these materials. I believe books should not be banned for these reasons. Books are usually challenged with the best of intentions: primarily to protect children from difficult information and ideas. According to the article "Indian state bans Gandhi's book after reviews suggest gay relationship", Joseph Lelyveld's book was banned after reviews said there were suggestions of a homosexual relationship regarding the father of India, Gandhi. However, Lelyveld says there were no parts in his book that said anything about racism or being bisexual. Psychoanalyst Sudhir Kakar says "that's a pretty misinterpretation" regarding what reviewers have said about Lelyveld's book.
