The purpose of the textbook, Who Rules America? by G. William Domhoff, is to explain his theory of class domination. My essay emphasizes the relationship between social class and power, the existence of a business community, the relationship between the business community and the upper class, and the various methods used by the business community to dominate the US political system. Additionally, my essay will discuss potential limits to corporate power in America. The relationship between social class and power is a belief about equality of opportunity that seems to be ignored by previous higher social mobility. According to Domhoff's statement on the relationship between social class and power, "no group or class had power in America, only influence." In other words, the upper classes are more visible and accessible because they share a common point of view on issues related to important new foreign and domestic policies. This leads the corporate rich to develop to institute the policies they prefer, such as collective power pursuing common goals in the community or nation and distributive power which is the ability of a group or social class within a community or nation to have success in conflicts. on matters that concern him. Social class is primarily based on income, occupation, and education. For example, the upper class education system is different from most public schools attended by the population, because the upper class "receives a distinctive education to prepare them for America's future leaders" (p. 46). This shows how the upper classes have more advantage than any other class because they have more opportunities to study in these schools to become part of the government leaders. Members of the upper classes have power based on their wealth....... middle of paper... as these corporate leaders have. The business community has had no role in the conflict of government policies or major political changes, but has decided on its own to affiliate spending in the economy in times of crisis. My essay analyzed Domhoff's theory of class dominance by discussing the relationship between social class and power and the existence of a corporate community. Furthermore, it interprets the business community's relationship with the upper class and the different methods used by the business community to dominate the US political system. Finally, it explained the potential limits to corporate power in America. Overall, according to Domhoff, Domination means that the command of a group or class establishes the organization, rules and customs. Works Cited Domhoff, G. William. Who rules America?. 7th.
