Topic > Genocide is still ongoing in Darfur, Sudan - 1043

Not everyone believes in genocides, others may have different opinions or thoughts. Sometimes people don't realize the genocide because they believe in what they are doing and think that no harm is being done because it doesn't affect them. Being taken away from your family, going to live elsewhere, or being killed can have a huge impact on your life. Genocides play a huge role in the world; It has influenced and will influence many people. A genocide is underway in Darfur, which has been going on for several decades now. Genocide is the mass killing of a race. The people of Darfur and the government of Sudan did not get along very well. The government wanted to do oil exploration where citizens lived. There was and still is a lot of tension between the government of Sudan and the people of Darfur. (Sudan Backgrounder, United to End the Genocide) At first this genocide didn't do much for me, because I didn't know why the people of Darfur hadn't left. Not everyone believes in genocides, others may have a different opinion. Darfur is located in northeastern Africa. The genocide began in 1956, when the war broke out, and continued until July 2011, because South Sudan became a country of its own. The government has suffered attacks on Darfur and air force bombing. There were mass slaughters and rapes of men, women and children. The tribe and citizens are targeted because the government was overthrown by the military and then government forces bombed civilians to facilitate exploitation. (Darfur Genocide, World Without Genocide) The government wanted Darfur to be used for oil exploration, but the citizens did not want to leave Darfur because that is where they live and produce resources. The weather in Darfur was also good for the people...middle of the paper...for future reference. As citizens of North America, we cannot do much other than continue to help those in need. Not all mass killings are bad; it all depends on the potential customer. Many may not believe or want to believe the truth, while others may simply not understand.
