IntroductionElectronic dance music (EDM) festivals around the world bring together hundreds of thousands of fans for massive, multi-day parties. New York Ranger (2014) points out that “DJs are the new rock stars.” “While attendance at concerts and festivals of other music genres has declined 8.3% over the past three years, EDM has only thrived” (Lashbaugh, 2013). Lashbaugh (2013) also finds that EDM festivals have double the attendance of all concerts and festivals of other music genres combined. EDM is a growing industry! Last year the festival scene generated $4 billion. In 2013 the EDM scene grew again and is now valued at 15 – 20 billion US dollars (Sam, 2013). Artists like Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Rihanna are changing their musical style to what is popular right now. They are adapting and releasing songs that have EDM inspiration (New York Ranger, 2014). There is a 33% increase in the total number of festivals produced worldwide in the last year (Langdon, 2013). The current growth of the music industry is a result of the global popularity of EDM (Unknown, 2013). The DJ market has become more popular in recent years as new technologies have made it easier to become an entertainer (Vincent, 2013). From the statistics above we can see that EDM is a rapidly growing industry. This may lead to a need for more qualified DJs in the future.
