Good morning/afternoon students. Let me first congratulate you on being chosen for this six-month acting course here in Nida. I'm Tayla, your tutor for the semester. My position here today is to clear up any confusion you may have about aspects of an acting career. Many of you might think that fame is part of being an actor. After many years of working in this industry, I can tell you emphatically that fame is really just a media creation. “The state of being widely known or recognized” (TheFreeDictionary.com, 2014) perfectly justifies what fame is. Think to yourself for a second, how could we know about celebrities without the media? Accept if we know them in person obviously. Without the media there would be no fame and the publicity that fame brings doesn't always bring out the best in people. Fame is exclusively a media creation. Fame doesn't always bring out the best in people. For example, Lindsay Lohan. The media made Lindsay famous after her role in Herbie: Fully Loaded and Mean Girls. We all know how poor she is at acting, but the media still made her to be famous. As her status began to rise, she was arrested multiple times, some of them after crashing her car into a tree and allegedly engaging in a car chase with her former personal assistant's mother. The media doesn't always bring out the best in people. He had what you might say, a hard-partying lifestyle. She has been caught with drugs, driving under the influence and many other crimes. The media created Lindsay to be famous. Which led her down the path of crime. Then she went to rehab. Being a famous actress, the media published all her crimes and her presence in rehab. The media highlighted Lindsay as an unstable person. Everyone... in the middle of the paper... talking about something else." (Quotes, 2014) The media privileges a person and his opinions and presents them in a particular way for one purpose, to attract attention. I media will create an attention-grabbing story to draw the reader in and push them to learn more. I hope you take home an insight into what fame really is. If you want to work in the acting business for the fame, forget about it there are many actors out there who are good at their job, but they are not famous. There are many actors who are not very good at their job, but they are famous. So is fame the same as celebrity or notoriety? that I have done to you, it has been established that fame equals notoriety, i.e. well known for a bad quality or action. Look at Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. The media has made a representation of them that they are known for media creation.
