The American dream has been the reason why people decide to emigrate to the United States for years. The American dream is the idea of finding well-paying job opportunities that allow you, for example, to buy a nice house and own a nice car. Therefore, the key to the American dream is jobs, which are vague within the country now days. The United States has fallen into a deep recession that has caused the unemployment rate to skyrocket. Now, ironically, the United States continues to be called the American dream. Job opportunities are so few that they are not even enough to restore the country's economy. The government should focus on creating jobs to help citizens who are struggling by lowering taxes instead of waiting for unemployment rates to miraculously drop. Today the government is bringing aid such as medical assistance, Medicare, food stamps and unemployment benefits. These benefits help in some way to control citizens' reaction to the economic recession, but not only. Numerous laws and clauses have been added to qualify for the benefits of these governments. Now young adults age eighteen and older are not eligible for any of this aid unless they work at least nineteen hours a week. How does the government expect people to have jobs if there are no open positions? People who luckily have a job may not consider how stressful it can be to not be able to find a job. Throughout history, cases of domestic violence and even suicide have occurred. The stress caused by lack of work especially affects men. It's common to see men play the role of breadwinner, protector, and provider. After losing their jobs, male and female breadwinners are the ones who feel all the pressure on their shoulders. In “Worris...... middle of paper....... The government needs to let go of its selfishness and stop blaming any unrelated issue for the high unemployment rate because it will continue to be that high until the government recognizes its great guilt. If taxes had been lowered a long time ago, perhaps today, the status of the economy would be totally different. Now, it is not the desire of immigrants for the United States to return to being the American dream. Now, it is the desire of its own citizens to have the America they knew.
